The 2025 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Demetrius Knight NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Linebacker
School: South Carolina
Size: 6-foot-2, 235 pounds
Class: Senior
2024 stats: 82 total tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 1 interception, 1 pass defended, 3 forced fumbles
Knight was a three-star recruit in the class of 2019 who signed with Georgia Tech to stay in-state. For three seasons, Knight was a backup linebacker and special teams player for Georgia Tech. He then played in four games for the Yellow Jackets in 2022, but then skipped the rest of the season after head coach Geoff Collins was fired. Knight transferred to Charlotte of the 2023 season, registering 96 total tackles, six tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Charlotte struggled to a three-win season and Knight transferred to South Carolina for 2024. Knight had a great season, tallying 82 total tackles, eight tackles for loss and two sacks. He led the Gamecocks to a nine-win season.
Following the season, Knight declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day-two pick.
Knight sees the game very well compared to other linebacker prospects. He has good play diagnosis skills, reading the play quickly. Knight has the ability to see the blocking schemes, but also find the football well. His awareness shows up against the run and the pass, as he reads quarterbacks’ eyes well too.
He is a good tackler that is capable of hitting hard. Knight shows good pursuit to close down on ball carriers and when he gets in range he uses his good length to wrap up. He is a good form tackler and is able to finish plays well. Knight doesn’t miss many tackles and limits offensive players’ ability to get yards after contact.
His run defense is further along than his pass defense at this point. Knight uses his good instincts and finds the football quickly. He then gets downhill and flows to the ball carrier. His ability to shed blocks comes into play and he can also elude blocks if needed. Knight is able to finish with a good tackle.
Knight is an older prospect in this draft class who didn’t produce a lot early in his career. He didn’t play a lot at Georgia Tech early in his career and only started for one year at Charlotte and one year at South Carolina. Playing six years in college and only producing in two of them will leave a lot of questions and because he is older, he will need to develop quickly at the next level.
His movement abilities won’t wow for the position. Knight has average long speed. What might limit him more than his speed, is he has tight hips. This limits his ability to change directions quickly. With limited acceleration and agility, he has to utilize his strength and awareness more.
He will be limited in coverage as well. Knight can do decently well in zone coverage, as he uses his eyes well, but his range isn’t as great as other linebackers. Knight will specifically struggle in man coverage, as he doesn’t mirror well. There will be other linebackers who may be better fits to be on the field during passing downs.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
Draft Grade: Second Round Pick
