The Wolverines went 9-4 with Hill’s help. When he was a sophomore, Hill had 44 tackles, one interception and four passes defended. Michigan struggled though with a 2-4 record in a COVID-shortened season. He improved as a junior with 69 total tackles, two interceptions and eight passes defended. Michigan made the College Football Playoff and finished the season with a 12-2 record.
Following his junior season, Hill declared for the 2022 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first or second-round pick.
Daxton Hill Strengths
Hill has great athleticism for a safety. He has good speed, especially for someone playing at the backend of the defense. Hill changes directions quickly and shows good burst. His acceleration really helps him break on plays. There aren’t many safeties that can move the way that Hill does.
NFL teams will be able to move Hill around. He can play deep safety and shows good range doing sell. Hill can also play at nickel corner. There are some suggesting he could be a full-time corner. His ability to cover from a variety of different positions is appealing. This goes for both man-to-man and zone coverage.
His aggressiveness is admirable. He has the ability to fly to the football in a downhill manner is unique. Hill can tackle decently well and isn’t afraid to lay down big hits. He makes mistakes, but it is because he is too aggressive.
Daxton Hill Weaknesses
Hill is a little light for a safety. He is 6-foot and 191 pounds, which means he will be a free safety at the next level. There is room to add play strength. His frame could handle some more muscle, as he has long arms that are over 32 inches.
While he shows good pursuit, Hill has trouble against the run. He won’t be able to play in the box very often as he struggles to shed and is a below-average tackler. With more play strength, he could shed better and could finish more tackles.
His ball skills aren’t the greatest and doesn’t match his athletic traits. He struggles to track the ball in the air and although he has solid movement abilities, he doesn’t break on the ball well enough. Hill can be outmuscled for the football as well.
