Robinson took a while to start producing, but was very effective over the last two seasons. Now he is in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As a three-star recruit in the class of 2019, Robinson signed with Missouri out of Michigan. He had one tackle in his first season on campus and 12 in his second. For the 2021 season, he had 21 total tackles. He took a huge jump in production for the 2022 season, as he had 35 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. His play helped the Tigers win six games. Last season, he tallied 43 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. Robinson’s emergence helped Missouri improve to an 11-win season.
Following the 2023 season, Robinson declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick.
Darius Robinson Strengths
Robinson is a huge edge rusher, even by NFL standards. He is 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds. His frame is maxed out, so he won’t have to worry about adding muscle to fit in at the next level. Robinson also has long 34 and 1/2 inch arms which help him shed.
He is a good run defender for a few different reasons. Robinson has the ability to shed blocks well. After that he shows good pursuit of ball carriers. Once he reaches the ball carrier, he is able to bring them down with a solid tackle.
His motor is very good for an edge defender. A lot of his pass rush production is because of his ability to keep on working toward the quarterback on a secondary rush. His pursuit on run defense can take him far away from his original spot, as he continually shows effort to make plays.
Darius Robinson Weaknesses
Robinson has a good bull rush, but he has to improve his pass rush plan. This includes knowing how he is going to rush on every play and adding more moves with counters to go with them. He is a predictable rusher right now. Right now his best bet to stay on the field for third downs is to rush from the interior.
His awareness could improve as well. It can take a while for him to diagnose plays and then get to the football. He can also be fooled by misdirections and play-action passes. Robinson can pay more attention to detail in order to improve his awareness.
He doesn’t have the ability to speed rush like other edge players. Robinson also doesn’t have the flexibility to bend around the edge as well. The lack of speed and flexibility could make him a candidate to move to the inside.
Projected Draft Range: Third Round Pick-Fifth Round Pick
Draft Grade: Fourth Round Pick
