Damone Clark 2022 NFL Draft Profile

The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Damone Clark 2022 NFL Draft Profile.

Damone Clark Background

Position: Linebacker

Size: 6-foot-2, 239 pounds

Class: Senior

2021 stats: 135 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, 1 interception, 3 passes defended, 1 fumble recovery, 2 forced fumbles

Clark noticeably improved as a player every year he was on campus at LSU. Now, he is heading to the 2022 NFL Draft.

As a four-star recruit out of Baton Rouge, Clark decided to stay home and go to LSU. He played sparingly as a freshman and then was a rotational player who started a few games on the 2019 National Championship team. He had a bigger role in 2020, delivering 63 total tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack. LSU struggled with a 5-5 record. He was a leader on the 2021 roster with 135 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. The team results didn’t go well though, as the Tigers had a 6-7 record.

Following a productive career, Clark decided to take his talents to the next level. He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick.

Damone Clark Strengths

Clark is a big linebacker at over 6-foot-2 and 239 pounds. He has the necessary play strength to really battle in the box. On top of the size and strength, he has solid 33-inch arms, which can help him shed and increase his tackle radius.

His size makes him perfect for run-stopping abilities. Clark can see where a play is going, then reacts quickly. He can shed blocks or get through traffic to get to the ball carrier. Once he gets to the ball carrier, he is a sure bet to bring him to the ground to complete the play.

He is one of the better tackling linebackers in the class. Clark was all over the field for LSU and was a tackle machine. He flies after the ball and can lay down some big hits. His ability to also finish with a form tackle is also there.

Damone Clark Weaknesses

Clark has had trouble with his awareness. He doesn’t always read the play correctly and can give up some large gains. His inability to figure out if a play is a misdirection or a play-action pass really hurts his team. He’ll need to focus and be more aware in zone coverage as well.

His coverage abilities have come into question. He doesn’t always mirror well in man-to-man coverage and doesn’t show recognition from zone. Right now, it appears like he wouldn’t be a safe bet to be a three-down linebacker in the NFL.

He had a herniated disc in March and had surgery to repair it. This could be a red flag for a lot of teams who check him out in the pre-draft process. He will likely miss his rookie season, which could really set back his development.

Projected Draft Range: Third Round Pick-Fifth Round Pick
