Dalton Kincaid 2023 NFL Draft Profile

Joe DiTullioBy Joe DiTullioApril 24, 2023Updated:April 24, 20234 Mins Read

The 2023 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Dalton Kincaid 2023 NFL Draft Profile.

Dalton Kincaid Background

Position: Tight End

School: Utah

Size: 6-foot-4, 242 Pounds

Class: Senior

2022 stats: 70 receptions, 890 receiving yards, 12.7 yards per catch, 8 touchdowns

Kincaid is one of many productive tight ends to play for Utah over the last few seasons. He is now in the 2023 NFL Draft.

After only playing one year of high school football, Kincaid was an unranked recruit who signed on to play for the University of San Diego at the FCS level. He spent two seasons there before transferring to Utah. In his first season with the Utes in 2020, Kincaid caught one pass for 14 yards. He stepped into a larger role in 2021, totaling 36 catches for 510 yards and eight touchdowns. His play helped Utah make the Rose Bowl. Kincaid returned for the 2022 season with 70 receptions for 890 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He was a key player on a Rose Bowl team for the second-straight season.

Following the season, Kincaid declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is a projected first or second-round pick.

Dalton Kincaid Strengths

Kincaid is one of the better athletes at the position in the class. He has good acceleration and speed for a tight end. Not only can he move in a straight line well, but he also has good agility. Kincaid shows that he played high school basketball, as he can get up and high-point balls over defenders. He is a mismatch because of his ability to move and his body control.

His ability to run routes sets him apart from other tight ends. He can get in and out of his breaks quickly to create separation. Utah also used him in a way that saw him run an expanded route tree, something that will aid him in being successful at the NFL level.

Once the ball is in his hands, Kincaid is a threat to run after the catch. He uses his athleticism and vision in the open field to pick up maximum yardage on a lot of plays. Kincaid also runs through arm tackles and can be tough to tackle. Teams can throw him the ball underneath and he can turn and get upfield quickly.

Dalton Kincaid Weaknesses

Kincaid will need to add strength to his game. He is listed at 242 pounds and may come in a little lighter than that. The lack of size helps him move, but it does limit his game. He will need to get into the weight room once he gets drafted to hold up in the NFL.

With his lack of strength, his run blocking leaves a lot to be desired. He does not currently have the skillset to be an in-line tight end. Adding strength will help, but Kincaid could still work on sustaining his blocks as is. Kincaid struggles to block in a lot of situations and could also struggle in pass protection at the next level.

While he has shown some physicality as a runner, Kincaid can struggle with physical coverage. This presents a problem as the coverage will be more physical at the NFL level. He will need to add strength, but also can work on playing through contact better.

Projected Draft Range: First-Round Pick-Second Round Pick

Draft Grade: Second-Round Pick
