The 2024 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Chris Braswell 2024 NFL Draft Profile.
Chris Braswell Background
Position: Edge Rusher
School:Â Alabama
Size:Â 6-foot-3, 255 pounds
Class:Â Senior
2023 stats:Â 42 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, 1 interception, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 touchdown
Braswell waited his turn at Alabama, but was effective in the latter years of his time with the Crimson Tide. He is now in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As a four-star recruit in the class of 2020, Braswell left the state of Maryland to sign with Alabama. He did not play in his first season, but saw the field in 2021 on special teams and as a rotational player. His role increased in 2022, as Braswell had 20 total tackles, four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He stepped into the starting lineup for the 2023 season, registering 42 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks. His play helped Alabama go 12-2, losing in the College Football Playoff Semifinals.
Following the appearance in the CFP, Braswell declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a second or third-round pick.
Chris Braswell Strengths
While he doesn’t have the biggest frame at 6-foot-3, Braswell fills it out well at 255 pounds. With that size, he has good play strength for the position. He is able to use that to shed, but also converts speed to power well. Braswell can bullrush and push offensive linemen backward.
Braswell has a good pass rush plan going into each snap. He has several pass rush moves to choose from and when one of those is stopped, he has the ability to counter. Braswell has chops, rips, swims and more to try to beat the offensive lineman lined up across from him.
He has a good motor that runs hot for most plays. When his initial pass rush is stopped, Braswell keeps on moving towards the quarterback. Against the run, Braswell diagnoses plays quickly and then shows an effort to get to the ball with good pursuit.
Chris Braswell Weaknesses
While he has good strength, his frame isn’t prototypical for the NFL. He is just 6-foot-3 and also has below-average length. This will make it tough for him to battle with much bigger offensive linemen. He can struggle to shed blocks because of their arm-length advantage.
He isn’t the most flexible, which makes it harder to get after the quarterback. Braswell struggles to bend around the edge. He will need to disengage from blocks with his hand usage and strength. Keeping his pad level low will also be important.
His athleticism also isn’t ideal for the position. Braswell has average quickness at the snap of the ball. He has average speed and isn’t as agile as teams would like. He will have to win with his leverage and hand-fighting ability at the next level.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
Draft Grade: Third Round Grade
