Chop Robinson 2024 NFL Draft Profile

Publish Date: April 22, 2024

The 2024 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Chop Robinson 2024 NFL Draft Profile.

Chop Robinson Background

Position: Edge Rusher

School: Penn State

Size: 6-foot-3, 254 pounds

Class: Junior

2023 stats: 15 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 1 pass defended, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery

Robinson started his career off at Maryland and then transferred to Penn State where he impressed. Now he is in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a five-star prospect in the class of 2021, Robinson decided to stay in his home state and play for the Terrapins. He tallied 19 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and two sacks for the Terps. Following the season, he decided to transfer to Penn State. In 2022, Robinson had 26 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. His play helped the Nittany Lions go 11-2. He returned for the 2023 season, registering 15 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. With Robinson’s leadership, the Nittany Lions won 10 games.

Following the season, Robinson decided to forgo his remaining eligibility and declare for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first or second-round pick.

Chop Robinson Strengths

Robinson is one of the most athletic edge rushers in the class and will likely test well at the NFL Combine. He has good burst at the snap of the ball and a nice top speed. Robinson is agile and flexible as well. He has the ability to bend around the edge and get to the quarterback. His traits will have him rising up on draft boards after the combine.

His motor seems to be always running. This doesn’t always lead to production, but he keeps his legs moving and tries to make plays on the ball. He shows good pursuit and can make plays downfield as well. That motor will help him make plays at the next level.

He can fit into different defenses at the NFL level. Robinson can rush with his hand in the ground or standing up. He has some experience dropping in coverage. His best fit might be as a 3-4 outside linebacker, because he can cover and rush, but a 4-3 team could take him as well.

Chop Robinson Weaknesses

Robinson is 6-foot-3 and 254 pounds, which is below the NFL average for the position. It looks like he plays smaller than what he was listed at during his college career. He also has average at best length, which makes it difficult to shed. Adding strength and good hand usage will be on the agenda for Robinson because of his relative lack of size and length.

While he can get some pressure, his run defense leaves a lot to be desired. He needs to show better gap integrity to help against the run and he can also set the edge better. If he can find a way to shed quicker, he can make more of an impact against the run as well.

The production wasn’t great and was streaky. Robinson needs to develop a pass-rush plan and also add more pass-rush moves to his arsenal. At the college level, he won because of his athleticism, but that will be hard to do consistently at the next level.

Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick-Second Round Pick

Draft Grade: Second Round Pick
