The 2025 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Carson Schwesinger NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Linebacker
School: UCLA
Size: 6-foot-2 and 1/2, 242 pounds
Class: Redshirt Junior
2024 stats: 136 total tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 2 interceptions, 3 passes defended, 1 forced fumble
Schwesinger was an unranked recruit in the class of 2021 who decided to stay in-state to play for UCLA. He didn’t play in 2021 and redshirted. Schwesinger played on special teams and as a reserve in 2022, registering 15 tackles. He stayed as a reserve and special teams player in 2023, putting up 12 tackles. He stepped into a starting role in 2024, impressing with 136 total tackles, nine tackles for loss and four sacks. While he played well, UCLA won just five games.
Following the season, Schwesinger declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day-two pick.
Schwesinger has good coverage potential for the NFL. He has solid range and can cover tight ends in man-to-man. While he may struggle covering running backs in man-to-man, his real potential lies in zone coverage. He uses his eyes well to read the quarterback and uses his instincts well.
He has great instincts and awareness for the linebacker position, which helps him make so many plays. Schwesinger diagnoses plays well. He recognizes blocking schemes and can track the ball well. He then plays aggressively, getting downhill to find the ball. Those instincts show up in zone coverage as well.
This past year at UCLA, he proved to be a tackle machine. He finds the football well and shows good pursuit of ball carriers. When he gets within range, he has good form, making sure to wrap up well. He finishes plays well and rarely misses tackles, making him a reliable player.
Schwesinger bulked up for the combine to weight in at over 6-foot-2 and 242 pounds. This would be fine for a linebacker, but he likely played closer to 225. He struggled to shed blocks at the college level and that is likely still on the table in the prose if he doesn’t keep the weight up.
The former walk-on only had one season of great production. He did play special teams and as a reserve early in his career, but only started for one year. Schwesinger did play well, but he still has limited reps. While he saw the game clearly, it would be easier to project what he could be with more tape.
He has average speed for position. Schwesinger makes a lot of plays because of his instincts and awareness, but leaves plays on the table because his speed is in the middle of the pack. His speed will limit his coverage abilities and his ability to pursue ball carriers who will mostly be faster than he is.
