Braelon Allen 2024 NFL Draft Profile

Publish Date: April 22, 2024

The 2024 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Braelon Allen 2024 NFL Draft Profile.

Braelon Allen Background

Position: Running Back

School: Wisconsin

Size: 6-foot-2, 245 pounds

Class: Junior

2023 stats: 181 carries, 984 rushing yards, 5.4 yards per rush, 12 rushing touchdowns, 28 catches, 132 receiving yards

Allen has continued the long line of good running backs to play at Wisconsin. He is now entering into the 2024 NFL Draft.

He joined Wisconsin as a four-star recruit in the class of 2021. Allen produced right away for Wisconsin, rushing for 1,268 yards and 12 touchdowns. He helped the Badgers go 9-4 that season. In 2022, Allen had 1,242 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Wisconsin went 7-6 behind Allen’s rushing. For the 2023 season, Allen totaled 984 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns as the Badgers went 7-5.

Following the regular season, Allen declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a second to fourth-round pick.

Braelon Allen Strengths

Allen is one of the bigger running backs in the class. He stands at 6-foot-2 and 245 pounds. With his size, Allen has great power. He runs through arm tackles and consistently falls forward to pick up extra yards. His contact balance is excellent. In short-yardage situations, he is able to convert and move the chains or get in the end zone.

His vision is solid. Allen is patient to allow holes to open. Once he sees the hole open, he is able to hit it, giving him the best chance to pick up yardage. His vision extends beyond the line of scrimmage, as he is able to take good paths in the open field as well, although he could run to open space outside more.

He has solid ability as a pass protector. His size allows him to match up well with incoming rushers. Allen shows decent awareness of where rushers are coming from and usually has good technique in blocking. There are times when he does go low to take out a defender’s legs when he could square them up, but for the most part he does a solid job.

Braelon Allen Weaknesses

Allen is a bigger back who lacks elusiveness. He does have some speed to work with, but it takes a while for him to accelerate. Allen also has limited agility to change directions. He is better suited running over defenders than trying to dance around them.

He is a limited receiver out of the backfield. Allen was not used heavily as a receiver. Allen doesn’t have great route-running skills to separate and is best used as a dump-off option. He does have some third down value as a pass protector, but teams will want a different running back on the field if they are planning on having them go out for the route.

Running to the outside isn’t something Allen excels at right now. He often will stick to more congested inside running lanes rather than kicking runs outside. While he doesn’t have great quickness, if he is able to gear up to long speed and go outside, he could have bigger runs.

Projected Draft Range: Second-Fourth Round Pick

Draft Grade: Third Round Grade
