Collins was a five-star recruit in the class of 2020, who stayed in the state of Texas to play for the Longhorns. He played mostly as a reserve in 2020, registering 22 tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack. Collins played more in 2021, delivering 25 tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks. Texas won five games that season. For the 2022 season, Collins put up 17 tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack. The Longhorns improved to an eight-win season that year. In 2023, he totaled 22 tackles, two tackles for loss and two sacks. His play helped Texas win 12 games and make the CFP. Last season, Collins racked up 55 total tackles, six tackles for loss and one sack. He led the Longhorns to 13 wins and a CFP semifinal appearance.
Following the season, Collins has been preparing for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is a proejcted day two pick.
Collins has excellent size for an interior defensive lineman at the NFL level. He stands at 6-foot-6 and 332 pounds, making him one of the bigger defensive linemen in the class. His size gives him tremendous strengh, which makes him hard to block. He also has good length with over 34 1/2 inch arms. Collins will be one of the bigger players on the field.
He is specifically effective as a run defender. Collins can take on double teams well, which frees up his teammates to make plays on the ball. He can hold his spot, but also has the ability to shed and make tackles. Collins has good gap integrity, but can also attack gaps and wreak havoc on ball carriers, who have to change their running lane as a result.
His block shedding is really efficient. Collins has strong hands and uses them well, with good placement and timing. Specifically against the run, he has shown that he can shed pretty quickly, which makes it hard for offenses to assign one blocker to him. Even if he doesn’t make the play on the ball, his shedding impacts the offense.
Collins is more of a two-down player who won’t offer much as a pass rusher at the next level. He has a few pass rush moves, like his spin move, but they aren’t overly effective. Collins can push the pocket as a bull rusher, but he is more likely going to be replaced on third downs by players who have more pass rush value.
He needs to work on keeping his pad level down. There are a lot of times when he stands too straight up and as a result, can be neutralized. When he stays low, he retains his power and can be way more disruptive. Focusing on keeping his pad level down, especially given his size, will make him a better player.
He isn’t the best athlete, understandably, at his size. The way this impacts him the most is his burst at the snap. He is rarely the first one off the line at the snap of the ball. While Collins can time the snap better, he doesn’t have the quickness to really threaten offensive linemen early in a rep.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
Draft Grade: Third Round Pick
