AJ Haulcy Background

Position: Safety

School: LSU

Size: 6-f00t, 215 Pounds

Class: Senior

2025 stats: 88 total tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, 4 passes defended, 1 forced fumble

Haulcy was a three-star prospect who signed with New Mexico out of Texas in the class of 2022. In his one year as a Lobo, he registered 87 total tackles, two interceptions and three passes defended. Before the 2023 season, he transferred to Houston, registering 98 total tackles and four passes defended. The team struggled with just four wins. In 2024, Haulcy totaled 74 tackles, five interceptions and eight passes defended. His play was great, but the team still struggled with just four wins again. He transferred to LSU in 2025, where he tallied 88 tackles, three interceptions and four passes defended. LSU won seven games on the season.

Following the year, Haulcy has been prepping for the 2026 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day two pick.

AJ Haulcy Strengths

Haulcy is like a heat-seeking missile coming downhill to make tackles. He protects the middle of the field well and uses all 215 pounds to make receivers pay. Haulcy is a solid tackler overall, but the veracity in which he tackles will impress in the NFL. Receivers will know where he is, but he also can make big hits on running backs as well.

His ball skills are great for the position as well. Haulcy gets a good jump on the play, then tracks the ball well in the air. He is then able to attack the catchpoint well, using his athleticism and strength. Haulcy is able to come up with good ball production, whether that is defending passes or intercepting them.

He sees the field so clearly. Haulcy has good route recognition and awareness, which allows him to get a good jump on plays. He diagnoses quickly against the run too, as he is able to come downhill and help there as well. Haulcy’s football intelligence and awareness show up clearly on tape.

AJ Haulcy Weaknesses

While Haulcy can match up well with tight ends, he can struggle in man-to-man coverage against receivers. Haulcy can’t always match their route breaks or keep up with them as they stretch the field vertically. He is best in zone coverage, where he can use his eyes to help put him in position rather than trying to keep up with receivers in man-to-man.

His speed is solid, but he doesn’t have the range to play single high safety at a highly effective rate. He can see the field clearly, but is better in split safety looks or coming down and playing in the box. Haulcy is a solid athlete, but there is too much ground to cover in those situations.

He is a solid tackler overall, but he misses some. A lot of that has to do with his shorter arms. Players are able to elude his reach. He needs to make sure he is closer before going in for the tackle, because when he does have players within his reach, Haulcy is usually a good finisher of plays.

Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick

Draft Grade: Second Round Pick
