The New York Giants and cornerback Greg Newsome have reached an agreement on a three-year, $46 million contract extension, which includes $32 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Newsome was a first-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2021 and was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars last October before signing a one-year deal with the Giants this past offseason.
Newsome and the resurgence of fellow former first-round pick Deonte Banks have given the Giants two extremely capable starting cornerbacks who have played a big role in helping New York build the league’s third-ranked pass defense through nine weeks, allowing just 184.9 passing yards per game.
The Giants, who are 4-2-1 to start the season and currently sit in first place in the NFC East, have clearly been impressed with Newsome through the first half of the season and wanted to lock him down long-term.
In six games this season, Newsome has recorded 25 total tackles, six passes defended and one interception.
