Zion Williamson’s Debut Shoe Released

Publish Date: April 6, 2021

Zion Williamson was the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. His shoe contract was highly anticipated. Fans were awaiting and wondering who he would sign with. In July 2019, Zion Williamson announced that he would be joining Nike’s Jordan Brand. The deal for the rookie was $75 million over five years with the brand. This deal is the largest rookie shoe deal in NBA history and is one of the highest deals that Nike has agreed to. Williamson signed this deal with Nike, even though he broke through a Nike shoe during a Duke game. Nonetheless Nike wanted Williamson to represent their brand and Williamson aligned with the brand’s vision.

With a year under his belt now, Williamson is settling into the league. Some far this season with the New Orleans Pelicans, Zion is averaging 26.4 points per game, 7.1 rebounds per game and 3.5 assists per game. Zion has asserted himself in the league and that is exactly what a Nike athlete should do.

The Shoes

Besides Russell Westbrook, Williamson will be the second player to get a signature shoe with the Jordan Brand. His shoe is called the “Jordan Z Code” and is closer to the newer style of Jordans. The release date for the shoes is still unknown but hopefully with the final release of the design, they will be coming out soon. According to the Foot Locker Europe release calendar, these shoes will begin being released on April 23, but it still isn’t determined when they will release in the United States.

At first glance, these shoes are simply colorful. This means for streetwear, there will be a lot of colors that can be worn with these shoes. As for basketball shoes, these sneakers will definitely be recognizable anywhere in the stadium. For a first signature shoe, they definitely show Zion’s style and a little bit of his personality. This may be the start of the next shoe dynasty for the Jordan Brand and Nike.
