
Wes Unseld Jr. is reportedly the of the leading candidates to fill the Washington Wizards head coaching vacancy per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Unseld has been an assistant coach in the NBA since 2005. He is the son of Wizards great Wes Unseld, who led the team to their sole NBA championship in 1978. He was also a four-time All-Star and is still the Wizards all-time leader in minutes played, games played and total rebounds.
The Wizards were also reportedly considering Dallas Mavericks assistant Jamahl Mosley for the position, but he has reportedly become the front runner for the Orlando Magic head coaching job.
Unseld got his start as a coach in Washington but has also had positions with the Orlando Magic, Denver Nuggets and the Golden State Warriors.
Unseld’s front-running the Wizards’ head coaching search comes on the heels of Washington firing head coach Scott Brooks after four seasons with the team. He was 183-207 with a 46.9 percent winning percentage and made the playoffs two times.
