Size: 6-foot-5, 217 pounds

Class: Junior

School: Duke

2021-22 stats: 13.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.4 steals, 0.2 blocks per game, 50.0% FG, 41.3% 3FG, 80.5% FT

Moore was a three-year college player and really took a step forward last season. He is now in the 2022 NBA Draft.

As a prospect, Moore was a four-star recruit who decided to stay in-state to play for the Blue Devils. He averaged 7.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game as mostly a reserve during his freshman season. Moore took a small step forward in his sophomore season, as he averaged 9.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. As a full-time starter during his junior season, Moore averaged 13.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. His play during his junior year helped the Blue Devils reach the Final Four.

Following his junior season, Moore declared for the 2022 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a late first-round pick or early second-round pick.

Wendell Moore Strengths

Over his college career, Moore has vastly improved as a scorer. He shot 21.1 percent from 3-point range as a freshman and finished his career as a junior shooting 41.3 percent from deep. His shot remains true from the mid-range and from the free-throw line, where he shot over 80 percent as a junior. His improvements are very encouraging and he can stretch the floor at the NBA level. Moore can also get to the basket and finishes at a solid rate.

Another area he really improved in during his junior season was his playmaking. Even though he wasn’t the primary ball-handler for Duke, he averaged 4.4 assists per game. He can drive and draw defenders in, then pass to a wide-open teammate. Moore sees the floor well and is capable of operating the pick and roll, which makes him even more valuable. While he will likely play off-ball, he has the capability to create when the ball is in his hands.

Moore possesses a lot of solid traits that help him on the defensive end. He has a solid length with a wingspan that reaches 7-feet. His wingspan and anticipation helps him convert steals. He stays locked in when defending on or off the ball.

Wendell Moore Weaknesses

His improvements during his junior season, but his struggles during his first two seasons at Duke do leave some room for concern, especially in the shooting department. He was inconsistent even with the good percentages in 2021-2022 and if he takes a downward tick in shooting as a rookie it wouldn’t be entirely unexpected.

He is not the greatest athlete for an NBA Draft prospect. Moore lacks a quick first step and gets into the lane with more craftiness than speed. On the defensive side of the ball, he could struggle with top-tier athletes. He finishes well, but isn’t often seen dunking the ball or even blocking shots on the defensive end. Moore is more skillful than athletic.

His turnover numbers weren’t always great at Duke. If he is creating as much as he did as a junior, then his 1.9 turnovers per game aren’t an issue. As a freshman, he averaged 2.4 turnovers per game and only 1.9 assists. He needs to continue to play under control and protect the basketball, especially if he doesn’t initiate offense as much as he did as a junior.
