Washington Wizards 2026-27 Depth Chart Following Free Agency

With NBA free agency largely wrapped up, it’s a great time to take a look at each NBA team’s depth chart as we head closer to the NBA season. Let’s take a look at the Washington Wizards’ updated depth chart following free agency, along with some analysis of the team’s incoming and outgoing players as they shape up for the 2026–27 season.

The Washington Wizards had a very busy offseason, overhauling their roster through new signings, extensions and the NBA Draft. The biggest of their offseason moves was drafting forward AJ Dybantsa with the first overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Dybantsa had been expected to go No. 1 overall for months, but the Wizards made it official and now have one of the best young talents in basketball to help transition the franchise back into contention.

The Wizards also made it a priority to lock down Trae Young to a new contract after trading for him last season. Young signed a new four-year deal worth approximately $212 million to remain in Washington and will be excited to get back to form after missing most of the 2025–26 season due to injury. Young will not be the only highly anticipated star in Washington, as he will aim to form a dangerous one-two punch with big man Anthony Davis.

Davis was also traded by the Mavericks to the Wizards last season but has yet to play a game for the franchise. Davis’ talent is unquestionable, but he has faced scrutiny in recent years for his inability to stay on the court, something he will be aiming to remedy during his upcoming stint with the Wizards.

The Wizards also traded for another former Maverick a few weeks ago in Khris Middleton, who played with Washington from the 2024–25 season through 2025–26 before being traded to the Mavericks. His stop in Dallas was short, lasting only 29 games before the Wizards brought him back. Even though he may no longer be the high-level scorer he was during his time in Milwaukee, he can still be a valuable option off the bench.

In order for the Wizards to acquire Middleton in the massive six-team trade, they had to give up guard D’Angelo Russell, who was shipped to the Memphis Grizzlies. Russell only played a handful of games for Washington, but his departure opened the door for Middleton’s return and cleared space in the backcourt for some younger options.

The final offseason addition for the Wizards was acquiring center Deandre Ayton from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Jaden Hardy and two second-round picks. Ayton has experienced plenty of ups and downs throughout his career and has bounced around the league over the past few years, playing for the Suns, Trail Blazers, Lakers and now the Wizards.

Last season, Ayton averaged 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting an incredibly efficient 67.1% from the field, the second-highest mark in the league. Ayton will help solidify Washington’s frontcourt while also providing a reliable veteran presence alongside former No. 2 overall pick Alex Sarr, whom the Wizards will be hoping takes a leap entering his third season.

The Wizards may have as much potential as any team in the league to turn their franchise around this year. They have a mix of talented young stars in AJ Dybantsa, Alex Sarr and Kyshawn George, and if veteran leaders such as Anthony Davis and Trae Young can stay healthy, the Wizards could certainly take a major step forward and make it back to the playoffs.
