The Oklahoma City have made a surprising free agency move in the early goings; that being acquiring guard Victor Oladipo from the Miami Heat in a deal that sees them receive some yet-unknown draft compensation. As the Heat jockey to try and get some star players to get back in the NBA Finals, it seems as if the Thunder will them help out by taking Oladipo’s salary.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news via Twitter.
Oladipo has been a bit of a journeyman so far in his NBA career. Since being drafted second overall in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic, he’s traveled to Oklahoma City, Indiana, Houston, Miami and now back to the Thunder.
He’s been an All-Star twice in his career, in 2018 and 2019, while with the Pacers. He’s also made Defensive First Team, won Most Improved Player and led the entire NBA in steals. The former Indiana Hoosier should start his second season with the Thunder next year, but could be moved to a contender that can take on his salary.
