With NBA free agency largely wrapped up, it’s a great time to take a look at each NBA team’s depth chart as we head closer to the NBA season. Let’s take a look at the Utah Jazz’s updated depth chart following free agency, along with some analysis of the team’s incoming and outgoing players as they shape up for the 2026–27 season.
PG: Keyonte George, Isaiah Collier, Trey Alexander
SG: Darryn Peterson, Ace Bailey, Josh Okogie
SF: Lauri Markkanen, Brice Sensabaugh, Cody Williams, John Konchar
PF: Jaren Jackson Jr., Kyle Filipowski, Blake Hinson
C: Jusuf Nurkic, Jaxson Hayes, Mo Bamba
Entering the 2026-27 season, the Utah Jazz will be focused on transitioning from rebuilding to competing with their newly established young core.
The biggest news and acquisition related to the Jazz was their selection of Darryn Peterson with the second overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Peterson was one of the most talented and exciting players in the entire draft class and will be a key component in turning Utah back into a contending franchise.
In his one season at Kansas, Peterson averaged 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 44.0% from the field. Peterson has an excellent ability to put the ball in the basket and create space for himself, allowing him to excel from the mid-range, beyond the arc and around the rim.
Peterson’s main critique entering the league surrounded his ability to stay healthy, as he played in just 24 games for the Jayhawks this past season. Despite the injury concerns, his scoring talent is undeniable, and the Jazz now have an elite young piece to fit alongside talented players such as Lauri Markkanen, Keyonte George, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ace Bailey.
While the Jazz are getting a huge addition to the team in Peterson, they are losing an integral player in Walker Kessler, the Jazz’s main rim protector and center for the last four seasons, who was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in a sign-and-trade. Kessler is one of the better young rim protectors in the league, and his defensive presence in the Jazz’s frontcourt will be missed.
Jusuf Nurkić and Mo Bamba, who were both re-signed in free agency, will help replace Kessler’s role, along with Jaxson Hayes, whom the Jazz signed in free agency after he previously played for the Lakers.
While not a free agency addition, the Jazz will be getting back a healthy Jaren Jackson Jr. this season after he only appeared in three games for the Jazz in the 2025-26 season following his trade from the Grizzlies at the trade deadline. Jackson Jr. is a two-time All-Star and former Defensive Player of the Year, winning the award in 2023. His presence on the defensive side should help replace Kessler’s impact, while he also brings plenty of upside and offensive ability.
The Jazz’s offseason can be defined by a few crucial moves that have set them up to hopefully compete next season. They have a multitude of talented young players and high draft picks across their roster and will be aiming to shed the label of still being a rebuilding squad in the 2026-27 season.
