The 2025 NBA Draft will be an important event for teams to build for their future. Here is the Tre Johnson NBA Draft Profile.
Position: Guard
Size: 6-foot-4.75, 190.4 pounds
Class: Freshman
College: Texas
2024-2025 stats: 19.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.3 blocks, 42.7% FG, 39.7% 3FG, 87.1% FT
Johnson was a five-star recruit in the class of 2024 who stayed in-state to play for Texas. He was the focal point of the team in his one season as a Longhorn with 19.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. His play helped the team make the NCAA Tournament, where there season ended in the First Four.
Following the season, Johnson declared for the 2025 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a top 10 pick.
Johnson is the best scorer in the draft class, as he had plenty of success putting the ball in the basket in his one season at Texas. He has the chance to develop into a three-level scorer. Johnson can get to the basket and finish, although he could be more aggressive in attacking the paint. He has a polished mid-range game and can shoot the ball from deep.
His shooting is advanced for his age. He shot nearly 40 percent from 3-point range while at Texas. Johnson can create space and get his own shot up off the dribble, which he hits at a high rate. He also has experience shooting off the catch and knocking shots down. His ability to hit tough shots is unique.
He has good ball-handling ability, which he uses in a few different ways. Johnson can get to the basket or create his own shot from mid-range or deep. He successfully can operate the pick and roll with solid decision making in that area. While he likely won’t be asked to play point guard much in the NBA, his ability to start the offense will help at the next level.
Johnson needs to add weight to his frame. This will help him match up better on the defensive end, but it will also help his offensive game. Johnson at times was deterred from going into the middle, but with more strength he can play through contact better and finish more often.
He has a good wingspan and solid athletic ability, but his defense doesn’t always show that. Johnson could have better off-ball awareness to stick with his man and to play passing lanes. His wingspan can be more disruptive for opposing shooters. With more focus and effort he can be a better defender at the next level.
His shot selection could use a little bit of work. He hit a lot of tough shots at Texas and was pretty efficient, but he could move the ball more or work for a better shot more often. Johnson could be an even more efficient shooter at the next level with a little bit of work on his shot selection.
Projected Draft Range: Top 10 Pick
