Trae Young Signs Four-Year, $212 Million Deal to Stay With Washington Wizards

Trae Young intends to sign a new four-year deal worth approximately $212 million to stay with the Washington Wizards, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Young had the option to accept his $49 million player option but declined in favor of long-term security in Washington.

This wasn’t surprising, as Young made it clear back in January that the Wizards were the only team he was interested in being traded to. He is now locked in as one of the veteran stars on the team alongside a young core of talented players.

Young will be joined by exciting players such as Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson, Julian Reese, and whoever the team selects with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft tomorrow night.

Young had a rough season last year, spraining his right MCL just five games into the season before returning to action in December. By then, the Hawks’ long-term plans no longer included Young, and he was shipped to Washington in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert.

In his five games with the Wizards and 15 games total during the 2025-26 season, Young averaged 17.9 points and eight assists.

It’s a relatively small sample size due to injury, but it’s clear the Wizards have confidence that Young can return to his All-Star-caliber potential, especially with the addition of big man Anthony Davis, who could form a dominant duo with Young.

The Wizards will be hoping that, now that they’ve locked down Young, he and Davis, along with their talented crop of young stars, can propel Washington back to the playoffs next season.
