Timberwolves vs Warriors Game 1 Recap

Publish Date: May 8, 2025

The Golden State Warriors defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 99-88 to win Game 1 of this Western Conference second round series.

Golden State may have won this game, but come out feeling defeated due to the injury of Stephen Curry.

Life without Curry

Curry exited the game in the second quarter with a hamstring injury. He was off to a hot start as he scored 13 points in 13 minutes of play.

Curry’s injury changes the trajectory of this series as Golden State will be without their star point guard for at least a week. He is in jeopardy of missing the entire series.

Despite Curry’s injury, Golden State was able to fend off Minnesota thanks to their defense and play as a team.

While the Warriors did struggle offensively themselves, they were able to limit the Timberwolves to shooting 39.5% from the field and 17.2% from the 3-point line. The Warriors also forced 16 Minnesota turnovers.

Golden State out rebounded Minnesota 51-41 and kept the ball moving as they racked up 26 assists. The Wolves had just 19 assists.

Without Curry, the Warriors’ offensive load will fall on the shoulders of Jimmy Butler.

Butler is no stranger to carrying his team in the playoffs, as he has done it countless times for the Miami Heat. Butler finished the game with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists.

Draymond Green contributed with an all-around game. Green had 18 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.

Buddy Hield has stepped up offensively as of late. Hield had 24 points on 5-for-8 shooting from beyond the arc.

Onto the next one for Minnesota

It was a night to forget for the Timberwolves.

Anthony Edwards led Minnesota in scoring as he dropped 23 points along with 14 rebounds and 3 steals.

Edwards had an extremely rough start to the game as he had just 1 point heading into halftime. He was 0-for-8 from the field up until that point, but was able to bounce back in the second half.

Julius Randle scored 18 points on 4-for-11 shooting from the field. 10 of his points came from the free throw line.

Jaden McDaniels contributed 12 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field. McDaniels and Randle were a combined 0-for-6 from the 3-point line.

Naz Reid provided the Wolves with much needed scoring off the bench. Reid had 19 points and shot 3-for-7 from beyond the arc.

Rudy Gobert finished the night with 9 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. Golden State’s perimeter offense was a problem for Gobert, as they were able to space the floor out all night to force him out of the paint.

Minnesota’s offense was in a funk the whole night, as they shot 5-for-29 from the 3-point line. They shot 34-for-86 from the field overall.

Though the Wolves lost Game 1, they now have the advantage with Curry’s absence for possibly the rest of the series. If Minnesota is able to execute, they will be headed to the Western Conference Finals for the second year in a row.

The Timberwolves will look to even the series against the Warriors in Game 2 on Thursday.
