Oklahoma City Thunder starters Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace will both miss extended periods after suffering injuries during the Thunder’s win over the LA Clippers on Sunday.
Thunder general manager Sam Presti announced Monday that Williams suffered a fractured fibula and dislocated left ankle after taking a gruesome fall while driving to the hoop during Sunday’s game. Williams had to be stretchered off the court and has now endured an unfortunate stretch of injuries over the last 18 months.
Guard Cason Wallace also suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder, according to Presti. The exact timelines for both Williams and Wallace remain unknown, with more clarity expected following their surgeries. Unfortunately, both injuries can require months of rehabilitation, putting their availability for the remainder of the 2026-27 season in serious doubt.
This is a huge hit to the Thunder’s roster, especially after the team recently signed both players to massive contract extensions, ensuring they remain key pieces of its future core.
Williams is in the first season of a five-year, $239 million maximum contract extension that he signed following Oklahoma City’s championship in the 2024-25 season.
Wallace, an All-Defensive selection last season, signed a five-year, $139 million contract extension just last week and moved into the starting lineup after Oklahoma City traded Luguentz Dort to the Atlanta Hawks over the summer.
