The 2025 NBA Draft will be an important event for teams to build for their future. Here is the Thomas Sorber NBA Draft Profile.
Position: Center
Size: 6-foot-9.25, 262.8 pounds
Class: Freshman
College/Country: Georgetown
2024-2025 stats: 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 steals, 2.0 blocks, 53.2% FG, 16.2% 3FG, 72.4% FT
Sorber was a four-star recruit in the class of 2024 who signed with Georgetown out of Pennsylvania. He played well in his lone season of college basketball, averaging 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists. Although he played well, Georgetown was unable to make the postseason.
Following the year, Sorber declared for the 2025 NBA Draft. He is projected to be a late first or early second-round pick.
Sorber is a good interior scorer, who is able to finish in the post. He can finish in the lane with good dunks or layups, especially in transition. When he is in the halfcourt, he shows solid footwork to be able to get enough space to get shots up. He fights for space and uses it efficiently.
He is a useful defensive player in a few different ways. Sorber can protect the rim, as he has a very long wingspan that is seven-feet-six-inches long. He times shots up well and can also help from the weakside to block shots. Sorber reads passing lanes well and gets a decent amount of steals for a bigger player.
For a big man, Sorber shows the ability to pass pretty well from the interior. He sees the floor very well and can find open teammates. Sorber also recognizes when pressure is coming and gets rid of the ball to the open man. There is plenty of potential for him to operate offense out of the high post.
Sorber is not a great shooter and will not stretch the floor. While he could develop more in this area, he has a long way to go. He shot just 16.5 percent from deep in his one season at Georgetown. Sorber will see most of his points from the paint and the floor will not be spaced a lot when he is on the floor.
For a big man, Sorber is undersized. He is just 6-foot-9.25 and while he does have a filled-out frame, he is outsized by other bigs. His wingspan can make up for some of his height limitations, but his post defense can struggle at times against taller players. His role as an undersized big who doesn’t shoot well from the perimeter could make it tough for him to find playing time earlier in his career.
His shot creation and ball-handling could be better for an undersized big. Sorber will not be a player to create his own shot and goes pretty slow with the ball in his hands. All of his weaknesses will make it harder for him to score conistently at the NBA level and he’ll have to show growth in some areas to become a better scorer.
Projected Draft Range: Late First Round Pick-Early Second Round Pick
