The Los Angele Lakers have started off the 2020-2021 season with a record of 6-3. Coming off a championship in the Bubble, the expectations were high for the team. With the same core team and a few new additions, the Lakers were expected to shine this season. This early in the season, there is no reason for Lakers fans to panic about three losses.
This Lakers’ team is so talented that their success is all dependent on themselves. All of the pieces to win games are on the team. Between Anthony Davis down low, LeBron James working his magic, Dennis Schroder facilitating, and basically any other playing coming onto the court, the Lakers are a solid team. The versatility of the Lakers players allows them to throw different line ups on the court depending on the other team’s strengths. All of the Lakers have the ability to score the basketball and this allows for coach Frank Vogel to put different players on the court depending on a specific game’s flow.
While this versatility is helpful, it may throw off the players at some points in the game. This adaptation process may take some adjustments which is what the Lakers could be working through now. The source of the losses are self-inflicted for the team. In the losses this season, the Lakers seem to either start out slow or turn the ball over more than their opponents. This coupled with a low three point shooting percentage and low free throw percentage does not help the Lakers win. Also, sometimes the Lakers seem to lack energy on defense. While these seem like issues for the Lakers, they are all something that the team can fix by themselves. The Lakers will rarely be less talented then a team which means that the mistakes are in the Lakers control.
The Lakers have only lost three times this season and its a long season. The team will only get better as it gets farther in the season. The team needs to fine tune certain aspects of their game to ensure success. Areas such as turn overs, three pointers and slow starts are good weaknesses to figure out this early in the season. Now that the team knows, they can focus on improving in those areas which will improve their overall success. It is way too early in the season to write off the Lakers. The talent that the team has ensures that the Lakers will have a successful season no matter what.
