Utah Jazz select Darryn Peterson with the No. 2 overall pick

The Utah Jazz have selected guard Darryn Peterson with the second overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Throughout draft discussions over the past few months, Peterson has been widely regarded as a top-three selection in this draft and has now found his home in Utah.

When he’s at his best, Peterson may be the best player in the draft and is certainly one of the most talented prospects in this year’s class. In his lone season at Kansas, Peterson averaged 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 43.8% from the field.

Peterson has one of the highest scoring ceilings in this draft class. He is excellent at creating space for himself and excels in the mid-range, from beyond the arc and at finishing around the rim.

The main knock on Peterson was his ability to stay healthy, as he played in just 24 games for the Jayhawks this season. He also dealt with cramping issues that hindered his ability to stay on the court and may have affected his chances of going No. 1 overall.

Despite those injury concerns, Peterson’s talent and scoring ability are undeniable, and the Jazz are getting a great young piece to fit alongside talented players such as Lauri Markkanen, Keyonte George, Jaren Jackson Jr., Ace Bailey and Walker Kessler.

With the addition of Peterson, the Jazz are putting together a deep and balanced squad that will be determined to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2021-22 season.
