Shaedon Sharpe 2022 NBA Draft Profile

Publish Date: June 21, 2022

The 2022 NBA Draft will be an important event for teams to build for their future. Here is the Shaedon Sharpe 2022 NBA Draft Profile.

Shaedon Sharpe Background

Position: Guard/Forward

Size: 6-foot-5, 198 pounds

Class: Freshman

School: Kentucky

2021-22 stats: N/A

Sharpe is one of the more unique prospects, as he didn’t play basketball last season. Even so, he has entered the 2022 NBA Draft.

Originally a part of the 2022 recruiting class, Sharpe was ranked as a five-star prospect. He then reclassified and graduated in 2021. Sharpe decided to sign on with the Kentucky Wildcats in January. Despite being eligible, he and head coach John Calipari decided just to have him practice with the team and train.

Following a few months of practicing with Kentucky, Sharpe declared for the 2022 NBA Draft. He is currently a projected lottery pick.

Shaedon Sharpe Strengths

Sharpe has a good blend of size and athleticism for a wing prospect. He measured in at just under 6-foot-6 with shoes during the NBA Combine. His long wingspan measured at just under 7-foot. At his size, he moves quickly and he can get off the ground with solid jumping ability. This blend is what has him as a projected early pick.

His shooting is also very encouraging. He showed he could shoot the ball off the dribble or the catch at the high school level. At times, he was able to display range that reached out to the 3-point line. He has decent mechanics and a nice release that should help him improve at the NBA level.

While he isn’t a perfect ball-handler, Sharpe does decently well. Although he is a shooting guard, he could run an offense in a pinch for an NBA team. He can create his own shot and because of his ability to get by his man, he can also set up his teammates with a little added work on his passing.

Shaedon Sharpe Weaknesses

Sharpe didn’t play during the 2021-22 season, so he’s going to have to knock off some rust and take a giant leap in competition. He will be one of the few players who went from high school competition to the NBA level without anything in between. While he did get some practice reps at Kentucky, the lack of experience past the high school level will take some adjustments for him.

Getting better shots will be imperative for Sharpe at the NBA level. He can sometimes settle for longer jumpers when something closer to the basket is available. The spacing of the NBA can help, but he needs to make sure to boost his efficiency by getting better shots.

On the defensive side of the ball, Sharpe has a lot of potential. He just didn’t show that he was great at defense already at the high school level. There are plenty of instances where guys were able to drive by him and get to the paint. With his wingspan and athleticism, all he needs to buy in and he can be a good defender at the next level, even if it takes a while for him to develop to that point.

Projected Draft Range: Lottery Pick
