Holland chose an alternate route to the pros and spent one year with the G-League Ignite. He is now in the 2024 NBA Draft.
As a five-star recruit out of high school, Holland decided to go to the G-League instead of going to college. With G-League Ignite, he showed why he was a highly-rated prospect. He averaged 18.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
Following one season with G-League Ignite, Holland declared for the 2024 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick.
Ron Holland Strengths
Holland was a highly-rated recruit because of his athleticism. He has good speed, quickness and leaping ability. Holland uses this on offense and defense, as he is tough to stop in transition, but he can also defend good athletes. He had a vertical leap of 38 inches at the NBA Combine.
Especially for his size, Holland has shown the ability to drive to the basket well. He drives downhill, using his athleticism to get to the basket in a straight line. Holland is able to finish with a dunk or lay the ball in. He has the ability to finish through contact. Holland can also avoid contact to finish in the lane.
He can find an early role in the NBA with his defensive ability. Holland is a good on-ball defender. He uses his athleticism to stick with his matchup, but also utilizes his length well. Holland uses his length well to jump passing lanes, as he had 2.1 steals per game in the G-League.
Ron Holland Weaknesses
Holland really needs to improve his shooting to make more of an impact on offense. He shot 23.9 percent from deep last season. Holland struggles to shoot off the catch and off the dribble. There were also struggles for Holland at the free throw line, as he shot just 68.2 percent.
In the G-League, Holland was a high turnover player. He needs better ball security, as his turnovers were way too high for a player who will not be a primary ballhandler in the NBA. Holland averaged 3.5 turnovers per game, which is alarmingly high.
While he is a good driver, Holland can struggle to create space for himself. He doesn’t have the ball-handling to create separation from tight man coverage. He does his best by driving in a straight line, which will lead to a lot of contested shots at the next level.
Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick
