Phoenix Suns and Mercury owner Robert Sarver has announced he will sell both teams after being marred in both sexual harassment and racism controversy. Ahead of the announcement, Sarver was going to be suspended for a year and fined $10 million.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news via Twitter on Wednesday.
The allegations of racism, misogyny and sexual harassment against Sarver have been spread across multiple years and been corroborated by multiple people within the organization. He has also been accused of being a bad owner that intervenes too much in the business of the team.
As of now, Sarver is not facing any legal issues. He will likely not be made to pay the $10 million fine issued by the NBA if the sale of the team goes through. He is also not banned from business with the NBA, and could possibly by another team with the billions he will make from the sale of both franchises.
