Rajon Rondo has been traded to the Los Angeles Clippers for Lou Williams. This trade took place about 30 minutes before the NBA’s official trade deadline.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.

Rondo was a key piece in the Lakers’ 2020 title run. The bubble necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic seemed to favor young players, but the veteran-laden Lakers team came out on top due in part to Rondo’s defense and passing. He signed a deal with the Atlanta Hawks in the offseason, but the contract has been traded to the Lakers’ rival, the Los Angeles Clippers.
Three-time Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams will be sent to the Hawks in replacement of Rondo. He won the award once with the Lakers, then in two consecutive years with the Clippers, in 2018 and 2019. Williams will supplement the veteran presence Rondo gave to the team.
