There will probably be some dark horse MVP, MIP and ROTY candidates this season. Same goes with potential All-NBA Team candidates. This season will probably be very fun to see and if the Lakers or Nets get bounced in the playoffs, it’ll be that much more entertaining. Who are the potential MVP, MIP and ROTY candidates of the 2021-2022 season?
Most Improved Player Candidates: LaMelo Ball, Keldon Johnson and Tyrese Maxey
Ball is obviously an electric and must-watch TV kind of player. His role in this offense will grow this season and he’s expected to lead this contending Hornets squad to the promised land. Johnson and Maxey are in the same boat as Ball. They are young players who will be given every opportunity to succeed due to veterans leaving. The Spurs are looking for answers this season and Johnson has proven that he can be a promising scorer and facilitator. Maxey is going to be filling a massive void left by guard Ben Simmons. Expect all three of these players to be in contention for the MIP award.
All three have been previous MVP candidates before and this year will be no different. Doncic has been posting Lebron-esque numbers and it’s absurd. The guy is too good to not lead his team to the playoffs and this season he’ll utilize his new teammates. Embiid will be shouldering a bigger load this season due to the departure of his teammate, Simmons. Like Embiid and Doncic, Jokic is expected to continue dominating other teams this season. Jokic is still without teammate, Jamal Murray for a while so his gigantic usage rate will remain the same. These studs will have major opportunities to post monster numbers again this year so expect them to lead the MVP race.
It’s pretty self-explanatory that these guys will be in the race for ROTY. All three are going to have the biggest opportunities to succeed. Cunningham will be looked at as the generational athlete who is expected to lead this franchise to the playoffs. Suggs is also going to be a major difference-maker for Orlando due to his superb defense and offensive talent. Green is possibly going to be the main ball-handler or starting shooting guard playing alongside Kevin Porter Jr. If their seasons go according to plan and they exceed expectations, they will easily be in the race for Rookie of the Year.
The next article will include potential All-NBA team players. There will be many players in contention for the defensive and All-NBA teams. However, there will be some players who will be making their first All-NBA or All-defensive team. Who will make the list?
