With NBA free agency largely wrapped up, it’s a great time to take a look at each NBA team’s depth chart as we head closer to the NBA season. Let’s take a look at the Portland Trail Blazers’ updated depth chart following free agency, along with some analysis of the team’s incoming and outgoing players as they shape up for the 2026–27 season.

SF: Toumani Camara, Shaedon Sharpe
PF: Deni Avdija, Sidy Cissoko, Jayson Kent
C: Donovan Clingan, Robert Williams III, Micah Potter, Yang Hansen
After a successful last season in which the Portland Trail Blazers went 42-40 and made the NBA Playoffs, the Blazers have signaled that they are no longer a rebuilding team and are ready to compete. They made an aggressive move over the summer by trading for Grizzlies guard Ja Morant, giving up forward Jerami Grant and guard Kris Murray. The deal was not incredibly risky for Portland given that Grant had roughly $70 million remaining on his contract, which Memphis will now take on.
Morant had been the subject of trade speculation for many months before Memphis found its trade partner in Portland. Morant, who is still only 26 years old, simply has not been able to stay on the court, appearing in just 79 games over the last three seasons. In his 20 games with the Grizzlies last season, Morant averaged 19.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game while shooting career lows of 41.0% from the field and 23.5% from three-point range.
The interesting predicament Portland finds itself in is that it has one of the most complete and deepest guard rooms in the entire NBA. In fact, it may be too deep, as the Blazers boast talented options in Morant, Scoot Henderson, Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday and Shaedon Sharpe. Portland now has an incredibly deep backcourt, and it will be interesting to see how new head coach Micah Nori can get the most out of each player and spread out the minutes. Nori was hired as Portland’s new head coach in June after spending the previous five seasons as an assistant with Minnesota.
While not an offseason move, the Blazers will be getting their franchise legend Damian Lillard back entering the new season. Lillard last played for the Bucks and suffered an Achilles injury during the 2024-25 playoffs. His return will be a big one for the Blazers and should create even more competition within the backcourt while giving the team a seasoned veteran to help lead some of the younger guards on the roster.
Portland also made it a priority to re-sign center Robert Williams III to a three-year, $44 million extension. Williams, who has dealt with injuries in the past few years, appeared in 59 games for the Blazers last season, the most since his 2021-22 season, when he played in 61 games. Williams averaged 6.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game last year and has formed a nice frontcourt combination with starting center Donovan Clingan.
Besides the departures of Grant and Murray, the Blazers’ only real free-agency loss was guard Matisse Thybulle. Thybulle is one of the league’s better perimeter defenders and has a career three-point percentage of 34.9%. Although Thybulle and his defensive presence will be missed, the Blazers’ extraordinary backcourt depth should help make up for the loss.
After spending the last few years stockpiling talent and allowing their young stars to develop, the Blazers are finally in a position to compete. They have a strong young core and some of the better depth in the league, especially after the aggressive move to trade for Morant and the return of Lillard. The main key to success for the Blazers will be finding the right fit within the team. There’s no question the Blazers have immense talent across the board, but it will be key to see how new head coach Micah Nori manages the guard depth and gets the most out of his new squad.

Even though Micha Potter played pretty much soley the center position during his first 2 years with the Pacers, that even still, some people apparently have said that he could also be able to possibly play the PF position. Which given this & given some of the, at least somewhat good things that he showed, especially this past season throughout all of the total amount of time that the Pacers played him for, as well as, given Sidoko hight, mixed with that he’s usually/mostly either just an SG or SG/SF, that given all this, I actually think that the Blazers will, at least most likely have Micha Potter be the main/2nd string PF off the bench, instead of how you have the depth chart listed here of Sidoko being the main!/2nd string off the bench at the PF position & have Potter listed as the 3rd string Center, behind Williams. Also, with this all said, Sidoko I think should instead be listed in the Blazers depth cart as being the 3rd string SG.🏀
I trust the Blazers will Run. while I love Lillard, his walking up the ball sucks. Hopefully with Morant, and the other guards that will change. Glad we’re keeping Jrue. he’s a tremendous stablizers/competitor.. I think Clingan needs to get faster also. I love his attitude. If Nori brings a loose fast style of play, The blazers will be hard to beat
