Veteran combo forward P.J. Tucker has found a new home with the Philadelphia 76ers. He will sign a three-year, $33.2 million deal with the Sixers, according to his agent. He will leave the Eastern Conference runner-up Heat to join James Harden and Joel Embiid.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.
Tucker, who is 37-years-old at time of signing, was drafted back in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors. He played just two seasons in the NBA before bouncing around foreign leagues from 2007-2012. Since rejoining the NBA he has been a member of the Suns, Raptors, Rockets, Bucks and, most recently, the Heat. Tucker won a championship with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021.
Despite his age, many teams were reportedly vying for his services. During his one year with the Heat, he scored 7.6 points per game and shot his best career percentage from behind the three-point line. His defense and leadership come to mind when asking why a team would sign a player that will be in his 40s before his contract ends.
