Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Recap

Publish Date: January 25, 2022

The Thunder lost to the home team Cavs. It was another low-scoring effort from the boys in Blue and Orange. The final score was 87-94 and it wasn’t a very promising game from the bunch as a whole. There were some players who had a nice game, though. This is a Thunder vs. Cavaliers Recap.

Mamadi Diakite Performance

The Thunder seem to like Diakite because he’s been playing some rotational minutes lately. He had a fairly decent line against the Cavs: two points (1/4 shooting from the field, 0/2 from the line), eight boards, one steal and one block. It wasn’t a good offensive night for the young forward, but he definitely looks energetic and has good defensive tendencies. Over the last week, he’s been putting up 3.5 points, 4.3 boards, 0.5 steals and 0.3 blocks a game on 54% from the field. He hasn’t shown a whole ton but this team will give him every single opportunity to improve and get better. He’s a fun prospect to keep an eye on.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Performance

Gilgeous-Alexander had yet another fantastic game. He put another gaudy line that consisted of 29 points, nine boards, six dimes, three swipes and a swat on 12/23 from the field, 3/7 from three and 2/5 from the line. When he puts up performances like this, he’s just so much fun to watch. The all-star break/trade deadline is coming up so it’ll be interesting to see what happens there. Gilgeous-Alexander is almost 100% going to stay put with the Thunder but anything is possible with Sam Presti and the Thunder organization. It would take a whole lot to pry him away so keep an eye on that situation. For now, expect Gilgeous-Alexander to keep getting better and better in a Thunder uniform.

Kenrich Williams Performance

Kenny Hustle had a nice game for the Thunder. He put up 12 points, four boards and two dimes on 5/8 from the field and 2/4 from three. Williams is a nice defensive presence for this team and has a tendency to rebound like a big. His style of grit and grind is perfect for this team but his tenure with this team might come to an end soon with the trade deadline looming. For now, he’ll give this team a solid lift in the second unit and his minutes will more than likely stay steady. Over the last week, he has been averaging 9.5 points, five boards, 2.5 assists and two threes on 47% from the field and 50% from the line.

Josh Giddey Performance

Giddey had a pretty mediocre game, going for eight points, five boards, three dimes, two steals and two turnovers on 3/12 from the field, 1/6 from three and 1/2 from the line. He’s been struggling a bit over the last week, averaging 12 points, 7.8 boards, 4.8 assists, 0.8 steals, and three turnovers per game on 38% from the field and 50% from the line. Giddey is a fantastic player for a rookie and despite being so young, the guy is just a beast. He’s going to figure it out very soon and that time will hopefully be in near future. Expect him to be in the ROTY race for the rest of the year.
