The Thunder finished their Summer League with a bang. They thrashed the Spurs, winning 116-91. Not only did they win by 25, they scored their highest total of points in any summer league game. It’s a nice end to their season but it was also a reason to continue working and improving. Everyone on the team contributed to this win and below will be a report card for several players who stood out in the 116-91 win.
Again with the broken record. Robinson-Earl again looked like a stud who was out to prove something. He scored 15 points on 7-13 shooting, grabbed eight boards, tossed four dimes and had a steal. To make this line even spicier, he didn’t commit a foul or a turnover. He missed both three point attempts but honestly, it doesn’t matter since he looked great out there. Robinson-Earl is sure to get minutes out of the gate in OKC’s upcoming rebuild season so hopefully he uses his minutes wisely. If his coaches can trust him and give him minutes, his ceiling could be non-existent. His defensive tenacity, ability to stretch the floor and court vision are all going to be very fun to watch.
Wiggins had a pretty good game, tallying 10 points, four rebounds, five assists. He also shot an efficient 4-7 from the field and 1-2 three pointers. It wasn’t the most eyepopping line and he did turn the ball over four times, but he still showed positives. He can create his own offense, drive, stretch the floor and even facilitate, as evidenced by his personal high five assists. Wiggins provided an offensive spark this Summer, averaging 11.2 points, 4.8 boards, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals a game. Despite not being talked about enough, he’s proving his worth to OKC fans and beyond. He looks like he could be a steal for this club and he should be able to make some noise in the G-League before returning to the big club. His progress will be monitored very closely.
Well, this came out of nowhere. Edwards provided a huge spark off the bench, going for a team-high 23 points, one rebound, assist and a steal. He shot 8-18 from the field, 4-8 from three and 3-4 free throws. Amazingly enough, Edwards had another 23-point game against the Warriors just two games prior to this explosion. His other three games, he scored a combined total of 10 points on 2-17 shooting. As good as this game was, he will spend a majority, if not all of his time in the G-League this season to work on his overall game.
Hall had a great game, tallying 17 points, seven boards and two assists. He shot uber-efficiently, going 5-8 from the field and 7-7 from the line. Hall had a mediocre Summer league, averaging just 6.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, .6 assists and .6 steals a game. He has a lot of work to do this season and it’s guaranteed he’ll see as much playing time this season compared to last year. Much like Edwards, Hall will likely spend a lot of time in the G-League to develop his game. Afterall, he is only 20 years old so hopefully he can unlock more parts to his game.
