It appears that NBA fans will receive another gift on Christmas Day. On Monday, the NBA announced that All-Star voting begins on Christmas Day. The NBA partnered with Google for the voting of this year’s All-Stars.
NBA All-Star voting begins on Dec. 25 at 11 a.m Eastern Time. This is before the Christmas Day games start, with the matchups that day being one of the most exciting events during the NBA season. Christmas Day features some of the best match-ups the NBA has to offer. This year includes games such as the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. the Houston Rockets, the Philadelphia 76ers vs. the Boston Celtics and the L.A Lakers vs. the Golden State Warriors.
Last year, the NBA changed its All-Star process. The players with the most fan votes become teams captains. Steph Curry and LeBron James received the most votes. So, they became team captains. Then, the captains select from the remaining eight starters. The other starters also are selected through fan votes. Then, the captains select their reserves from the players that coaches and media personalities select.
In last season’s game, Steph Curry and LeBron James led their respective teams. Both players selected their rosters and acted as team captains. Team LeBron won the game 148-145.
This is different from the old format of All-Star voting, where the teams were split by Conference. There were no team captains or players selecting their teams. The fans selected the starters of both the Eastern and Western Conference All-Stars, but the NBA eliminated the East and West teams. Now, Steph Curry and Kawhi Leonard be on the same team, although they are in different conferences. The addition of team captains adds an element of surprise and excitement.
All fans enjoy All-Star voting, as it gives fans the chance to see their favorite players. The Christmas games are a gift to NBA fans, but so too is the opening of the All-Star ballots.’Tis the season to watch basketball and vote for our favorite players. Let the voting begin.
