The Dallas Mavericks have hired Lakers assistant Jason Kidd as their new head coach. This move comes shortly after Rick Carlisle resigned from the position after 13 years in Dallas.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news via Twitter on Friday.

Kidd was the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets in 2013 and 2014 before being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. After almost four seasons in Milwaukee, Kidd was fired by the Bucks in favor of current head coach Mike Budenholzer. He, then, spent 2019 through 2021 as an assistant coach for the Lakers. He won a title with LeBron and the Lakers in 2020.
As a player, Kidd played for four teams from 1994 to 2013, including two separate stints with the Dallas Mavericks, whom he will now coach. He won a title in Dallas as a player in 2011. Kidd will now try and take the team that won him a championship as a player back to the NBA Finals.
