Mark Williams 2022 NBA Draft Profile

Publish Date: June 21, 2022

The 2022 NBA Draft will be an important event for teams to build for their future. Here is the Mark Williams 2022 NBA Draft Profile.

Mark Williams Background

Position: Center

Size: 7-foot-2, 242 pounds

Class: Sophomore

School: Duke

2021-22 stats: 11.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.5 steals, 2.8 blocks per game, 72.1% FG, 0% 3FG, 72.7% FT

Williams spent two seasons at Duke honing his game under Coach K. He is now a member of the 2022 NBA Draft class.

Out of high school, he was a five-star prospect with offers from all over, but he decided to sign with Duke. Williams started 15 games as a freshman, averaging 7.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. The Blue Devils had a rough season and finished at 13-11. He returned for his sophomore season, as he averaged 11.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game. Duke was able to make the Final Four with help from Wiliams.

Following the Final Four, Williams decided to forego his remaining eligibility and go pro. He is a projected mid to late first-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Mark Williams Strengths

Williams has excellent size, as he measured in at 7-foot-2 and 242 pounds at the NBA Combine. He also had a massive 7-foot-6 and 1/2 inches. There is no question that his size and length will allow him to match up with some of the biggest centers in the NBA.

He is a great rim protector after averaging 2.8 blocks per game at Duke during his sophomore season. Williams is able to time his jump perfectly to bock shots and doesn’t leave his feet early too often. He is able to block his own man’s shot, but also shows good recognition of when to help his teammates. His good team defense and rotations lead to even more blocks for him.

His ability to finish at the rim is great because of his size and relative athleticism. He showed the ability to run the floor and finish in transition. In the half-court offense, Williams is a good roller in pick-and-roll situations, as he finds space to get to the basket, receives the ball and finishes strong. He can fit in well in the modern NBA because a lot of pick-n-rolls are run.

Mark Williams Weaknesses

Williams will not be able to stretch the floor at the next level. He did not make a college 3-pointer during his time at Duke. His mid-range shot also needs a lot of work before becoming consistent. He may not be left on the floor at the end of games because of his lack of shooting ability.

When other teams go small, it will be hard for Williams to guard on the perimeter. He is a solid athlete for his size, but teams can get him switched on to smaller players. In those situations, he is totally reliant on his length to make a play. Teams can take advantage of this which could limit his playing time.

It was pretty common at Duke for Williams to get in foul trouble. He averaged 3.5 fouls per game as a sophomore and 3.9 fouls per game as a freshman. Williams let some drivers get into his body to draw fouls and he also reached from time to time. He needs to stop fouling to stay on the floor.

Projected Draft Range: Mid to late First Round Pick
