Steve Clifford has been hired by the Orlando Magic to be the head coach according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Clifford had been the coach of the Charlotte Hornets for the last five seasons but was fired after this season. He has formerly worked for the organization as an assistant from 2007 to 2012.
The Magic will task Clifford with getting the most out of some young talent. Aaron Gordon is likely to be back and the Magic also will want to develop 2018 NBA Draft pick, Jonathan Isaac.
In his five seasons as head coach, Clifford has posted a 196-214 record in Charlotte.
The Magic fired Frank Vogel after two seasons in hopes of turning the franchises’ fortunes around. Vogel had a 54-110 record with the Magic.
