Los Angeles Lakers 2026-27 Depth Chart Following Free Agency

With NBA free agency largely wrapped up, it’s a great time to take a look at each NBA team’s depth chart as we head closer to the NBA season. Let’s take a look at the Los Angeles Lakers’ updated depth chart following free agency, along with some analysis of the team’s incoming and outgoing players as they shape up for the 2026–27 season.

The Los Angeles Lakers had one of the busiest offseasons in the NBA, signing a multitude of new free agents to add youth and talent to the team. Although the Lakers added several new players, perhaps the biggest news surrounding the franchise was the departure of LeBron James. James had been the face of the franchise since signing with the Lakers in 2018, and he brought the city a championship during the 2020 season. James considered a potential retirement at age 41, but ultimately decided to leave in free agency and sign with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Lakers have replaced the loss of James with numerous free-agent signings and acquisitions, including Walker Kessler, Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, Matisse Thybulle, Sandro Mamukelashvili and more. Starting with their biggest acquisition, Walker Kessler has become one of the NBA’s premier young rim protectors. The Lakers acquired Kessler from the Jazz for draft picks before signing him to a massive four-year, $130 million extension. Los Angeles has invested heavily in Kessler and believes he can pair excellently with guards Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves to form an elite trio. The Lakers have struggled defensively in the frontcourt in recent years, and Kessler appears to be their answer to those issues.

The Lakers also signed talented guards Quentin Grimes and Collin Sexton. Grimes signed a four-year, $60 million deal, while Sexton agreed to a two-year, $19 million contract. Last season with the 76ers, Grimes averaged 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. Sexton also had a strong year while splitting time between Chicago and Charlotte, averaging 15.4 points and 3.3 assists per game. Both guards should be valuable additions to the backcourt and provide excellent support alongside Dončić and Reaves.

While Sexton and Grimes bring offensive talent to the roster, the Lakers also added an elite perimeter defender in Matisse Thybulle. Thybulle, a seven-year NBA veteran, will provide an elite defensive presence, wing versatility and improved three-point shooting. Additionally, the Lakers also strengthened their frontcourt with the signings of Sandro Mamukelashvili and Kevon Looney.

Mamukelashvili signed a four-year, $52 million contract, while Looney agreed to a one-year deal. Both signings will help shore up the Lakers’ previously shaky frontcourt and provide additional support alongside Kessler.

While the Lakers added a large number of new players, they also lost players such as Deandre Ayton, Rui Hachimura, Luke Kennard and Marcus Smart in free agency. Los Angeles had a solid season last year, reaching the second round of the NBA Playoffs before being swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder, but the roster is undergoing a significant overhaul entering this season.

Although the team is filled with new talent and depth across the roster, the Lakers’ success will depend on their new rosters’ ability to mesh together and whether their new big three in Dončić, Reaves and Kessler can take them to another deep playoff run.
