The 2025 NBA Draft will be an important event for teams to build for their future. Here is the Liam McNeeley NBA Draft Profile.
Position: Forward
Size: 6-foot-6.75, 214.6 pounds
Class: Freshman
College/Country: UConn
2024-2025 stats: 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.6 steals, 0.2 blocks, 38.1% FG, 31.7% 3FG, 86.6% FT
McNeeley was a five-star prospect in the class of 2024 who signed with UConn out of Florida. He battled injury during his lone college season, but put up 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. His play helped the Huskies make the 2025 NCAA Tournament, but they were defeated in the second round.
Following the NCAA Tournament, McNeeley declared for the 2025 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick.
The shooting percentages may not indicate it, but McNeeley is a good shooter. He specifically catches and shoots well, which helps an offense space the floor well. McNeeley shot just 31.7 percent from deep at UConn, but did better when asked to catch and shoot. He can hit shots from the mid-range as well, along with shooting 86.6 percent from the free throw line during his college career.
McNeeley will be limited on the defensive end because of average athleticism, but he knows his role and provides good help defense. He can occassionally jump passing lanes and help defend the post as well. His basketball IQ allows him to be in position and help a team’s defense.
For a wing, McNeeley is a good passer. He averaged 2.3 assists per game at UConn, showing good floor vision. While he won’t be one to operate pick and rolls or start offense, he keeps the ball moving when an open shot isn’t there for him. He can feed the post and find open cutters as well as shooters on the perimeter.
McNeeley is a decent ball handler for a wing, but won’t be creating his shot too much. He simply doesn’t have the wiggle to free himself for open looks. Driving by defenders doesn’t always work and he struggles to finish when he does get by them. In addition, he won’t be comfortable operating the pick and roll or playmaking for his teammates when he has to start the action.
His athleticism is just average, which limits what he can do. McNeeley can struggle defensively because of athletic mismatches. On offense he can struggle getting to the rim and finishing over bigger defenders in the lane. McNeeley will have a very specific role in the NBA due to his relative lack of athleticism.
He will have a limited defensive ceiling at the NBA level. McNeeley can struggle staying in front of perimeter players, as he lacks great foot quickness. He also can struggle if asked to guard bigger players, as he is undersized to battle in the post. McNeeley will mostly be used because of his offensive potential.
Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick
