According to The Athletic analyst Shams Charania, veteran sharpshooter Kyle Korver has joined the Brooklyn Nets as an assistant coach specializing in player development.
The decision officially means Kyle Korver’s career comes to an end after 17 seasons spent with six different teams, including the Sixers, Jazz, Bulls, Hawks, Cavaliers and Bucks. He averaged 9.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game in his career. Korver earned his first and only All-Star selection in 2015, replacing Dwyane Wade in the Eastern Conference.
The 6-foot-7 forward is one of the best and most consistent three-point shooters of all time. He currently sits at No. 4 on the NBA’s all-time 3-pointers list with 2,450(behind Ray Allen, Stephen Curry and Reggie Miller) and No. 10 in 3-point percentage at 42.9 percent.
As a player development coach, Korver will play a pivotal role on the team’s technical committee, since he has the responsibility to continuously monitor, improve and develop the skills of the players through court training.
With Korver’s experience and perimeter shooting talents, he will be a great addition to Brooklyn. Teaching his players the skills he’s developed over the years, he’ll get the opportunity to advise and mature the younger players on the team.
If his teachings are effective, the Nets will be unstoppable from deep. They’re already one of the best 3-point teams in the league, as they knocked down 39.2 percent of their attempts from beyond the arc last season. This made them second to the Utah Jazz. Joe Harris led all players at 47.5 percent, while Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving shot above 40 percent.
Besides Korver, the Net’s coaching staff overall has taken a hit this offseason. They’ve lost Ime Udoka, who was hired as Boston’s head coach, and Mike D’Antoni, who stepped down from his assistant role. The team still has made some solid hires, adding David Vanterpool as an assistant and agreeing to bring aboard Steve Clifford as a coaching consultant.
