The 2025 NBA Draft will be an important event for teams to build for their future. Here is the Khaman Maluach NBA Draft Profile.
Position: Center
Size: 7’0.75″, 252.8 pounds
Class: Freshman
College: Duke
2024-2025 stats: 8.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.2 steals, 1.3 blocks, 71.2% FG, 25.0% 3FG, 76.6% FT
Maluach was a five-star recruit in the class of 2024 who signed with Duke out of Sudan. He was part of a freshman-led team and did his part with 8.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. His play helped the Blue Devils make the Final Four, where they lost to Houston.
Following the season, Maluach declared for the 2025 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a lottery pick.
Maluach is one of the best shot blockers in the class. He protects the paint with his solid body control and wingspan, altering a lot of shots even if he can’t block it. Maluach uses his length to block shots on the man he is guarding, but he also provides good help defense from the weak side to protect the rim.
He has good rebounding skills, averaging 6.6 per game in just 21.2 minutes played per game. Maluach uses his size well, but boxes out and does a good job of reading where the ball will come off the rim. His offensive rebounding is a huge factor in getting teams extra possessions, as he had 2.7 offensive boards per game.
For a big man, he has surprisingly good touch. He shot nearly 77 percent from the free throw line, so opponents won’t be able to foul him and send him to the line just to get him off the court. That smooth touch shows up in the mid-range and has the potential to be stretched out even further in the NBA.
Maluach currently doesn’t stretch the floor. He shot 25 percent on threes, but didn’t take very many of them. While he has the touch to improve and possibly extend his range to the 3-point line, he currently isn’t there. Teams may want to take him off the floor early in his career because of floor spacing.
He can uses his length to be disruptive, but can get lost in his perimeter defense. Maluach can struggle when having to switch on perimeter players, as he doesn’t have the foot speed to stay attached. Teams going small may pose a problem for Maluach and may make a team put him on the bench more.
At Duke, he had more turnovers than assists. He will need to work on recognizing pressure and double teams in order to find open teammates. Maluach finishes well near the basket, but can still find teammates who are more open on the perimeter better. If he can cut down the turnovers and keep the ball moving, the offense around him will be better.
Projected Draft Grade: Lottery Pick
