Kevin Durant may be moving on to another chapter in his career.
Durant is not happy with the Phoenix Suns after the team inserted his name into trade rumors this past trade deadline, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
Durant has already expressed frustrations with the team during the season, most recently in a blowout loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Suns are expecting to make big changes in the offseason. This includes potentially dealing the disgruntled Durant in a blockbuster trade.
The 36-year-old is not a free agent until the end of the 2025-26 season, so a trade would be his only option.
Here are teams that would be the best fit for Durant.
The Dallas Mavericks have already made changes of their own this past deadline when they traded Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis. With Davis currently out with injury and Kyrie Irving missing the rest of the season with a torn ACL, the Mavs have their sights set on the offseason.
Dallas acquiring Durant would make up for the loss of Doncic’s scoring. The move would also reunite him with his former Brooklyn Nets teammate Irving. The two would have another shot at a title by forming a big three with Davis. All are veterans whose time in the league is ticking down and each knows what it takes to win a championship.
The Houston Rockets are a team on the rise. They are currently 5th in the Western Conference. Despite their success this season, critics don’t see them as a championship contender due to their inexperience and lack of a true star.
Adding Durant to this developing young core fixes both of those problems. Replacing Dillon Brooks with Durant at the small forward position would accelerate the Rockets’ timeline and give them a chance at making a deep run in the wild west.
Add another Texas team to this list, as the San Antonio Spurs would also be a good fit for the former Longhorn.
San Antonio is currently in a similar position to the Mavericks. Like Dallas, the Spurs have also made a huge trade as they acquired De’Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings. They are also looking toward the offseason, as a blood clot has put franchise cornerstone Victor Wembanyama on the shelf for the season.
A big three of Durant, Fox and Wembanyama would terrorize the league on the offensive side of the ball. San Antonio also has a mixture of youth and veteran presence, which is crucial to any championship caliber team.
If the Thunder are unable to win a championship this season, they may look to take a swing at another star to put them over the top.
Durant’s career could come back around in a full circle if he joins the team that drafted him.
The major difference would be that Durant is joining an Oklahoma City Thunder team that has already established itself as a powerhouse in the Western Conference.
In Oklahoma City, Durant would be joining future MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, an award that Durant won himself with the Thunder in 2014.
Durant would have a chance to right his wrongs with the Thunder, as he left on bad terms when he jumped ship to Golden State in 2016.
Wherever Durant ends up, it is sure to be another chapter to look forward to in the future Hall of Famer’s career.
