John Wall’s return timetable just got a lot longer. After an achilles injury in December was set to sideline Wall for six to eight months, Wall, a five-time All Star, will now miss a full year of basketball activities.
The Washington Wizards announced Tuesday that their star point guard will be out 12 months, after slipping and falling in his home. Wall had surgery on Jan. 8, but re-injured his achilles in the accident. Another surgery on Wall’s left ankle will be required in the near future.
Wizards say guard John Wall will have surgery to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon and is expected to return in a year. Wall had developed an infection in the incision from initial surgery on Jan. 8 and he suffered the rupture after slipping and falling in his home.

Not only will Wall miss the remainder of this season, but likely most of the 2019-2020 season. Wall’s achilles injury is the same that Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins suffered last year.
Wall signed a $170 million, four-year extension with the Wizards in 2017. He will end the season averaging nearly 21 points and nine assists.
D.C. Dilemma
In Wall’s absence, the Wizards are below .500 at 22-31, and outside the playoff picture. Bradley Beal has emerged as the team’s leader. Increasing his stats, many feel Beal was snubbed from this year’s All-Star Game.
With the team’s best player out for an extended period of time, it’s tough to say where Washington should move. They have made it known they likely to stand pat before the Feb. 7 trade deadline. The team has underachieved, even with Wall and Beal healthy together. The Wizards could try and trade both players and rebuild, but this injury to Wall makes him immovable for the time being. Washington is stuck in a tough spot.
