Jalen Duren has agreed to sign a five-year, $200 million fully guaranteed contract to return to the Detroit Pistons, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The massive deal marks the end of a lengthy free agency dispute between the two sides that lasted four months and extended into training camp. Duren ultimately accepted Detroit’s $200 million offer ahead of the 11:59 p.m. ET deadline to accept a one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer.
Detroit made offers ranging from $170 million to $190 million throughout the summer before putting the $200 million offer on the table. Duren, 22, even skipped the Pistons’ media day and the start of training camp while weighing his options, but both sides ultimately came to an agreement on the massive extension.
Duren is coming off the best season of his young career, averaging 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds on 65% shooting while playing a huge role in the Pistons securing the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. The Pistons now have their talented young center locked in for the foreseeable future.
