Jalen Duren 2022 NBA Draft Profile

Publish Date: June 21, 2022

The 2022 NBA Draft will be an important event for teams to build for their future. Here is the Jalen Duren 2022 NBA Draft Profile.

Jalen Duren Background

Position: Center

Size: 6-foot-11, 250 pounds

Class: Freshman

School: Memphis

2021-22 stats: 12.0 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.8 steals, 2.1 blocks per game, 59.7% FG, 0% 3FG, 62.5% FT

Duren’s season at Memphis didn’t go exactly as planned, but he did play well and showed off his skills. He is now in the 2022 NBA Draft.

As a five-star prospect, Duren decided to join a talented recruiting class at Memphis rather than the typical bluebloods. Memphis started the season off slow, but were able to make the 2022 NCAA Tournament and win a game before losing to Gonzaga. Duren finished the season averaging 12.0 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game.

After Memphis lost in the NCAA Tournament, Duren decided to take his game to the next level. He is a projected mid-first-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Jalen Duren Strengths

Duren has solid size for an NBA center at 6-foot-11 and 250 pounds. His body is well-built already and he won’t have to add much to it at the next level. He also has an impressive wingspan for his size. Duren will be able to match up with some of the other bigs in the NBA.

For his size, Duren is a good athlete. He has solid jumping ability, which helps him block shots and throw down dunks. His ability to run the floor well will come in handy. There won’t be too many bigs in the NBA with the same blend of size and athleticism.

His ability to protect the rim is great, as he blocked 2.1 shots per game. He shows good timing and doesn’t usually leave the floor until the shot is in the air. Duren can block his man’s shot, but also shows great awareness to help and block shots from the weakside.

Jalen Duren Weaknesses

Duren does not shoot the ball well and will not help a team stretch the floor, which could really limit him in the modern NBA. He did not hit a 3-point shot at Memphis. His mid-range game needs some serious work. On top of that, Duren shot 62.5 percent from the free-throw line. In order to be used a lot, Duren needs to develop a shot.

Most of Duren’s points come off of offensive rebounds or positioning himself really close to the basket for a dunk or layup. He needs to add more post moves to his game to add more offense to his game and to draw defenses in to open up his teammates.

He did show rebounding upside with some crazy games where he had 20 rebounds or close to it. The problem is that his rebounding is inconsistent. There were plenty of games where Duren did not bring down the basketball and brought down just five rebounds despite a huge size advantage. He needs to show better timing and aggressiveness in all games.

Projected Draft Range: Mid-First-Round Pick
