The Nets fired head coach Steve Nash, a Hall of Fame player, after a two-plus year tenure. They named a replacement for Nash a little over a week later; Jacque Vaughn, who has served as an interim head coach and an assistant coach for the team since 2016.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news via Twitter on Wednesday.
Vaughn was a point guard for five teams (the Atlanta Hawks twice) during his 13-year career. He won an NBA Championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2007 during the last stop of his career. He also won a (then) Big Eight Player of the Year at Kansas in 1996.
His coaching career began with the Spurs in 2010, when he joined as an assistant, then serving as the Orlando Magic’s head coach from 2012-2015. Vaughn went 58-158 during his two-plus years as a head coach there.
