German-American center Isaiah Hartenstein will join his fifth NBA franchise in 2022 since being drafted in 2017. He has reportedly agreed to a two-year deal worth over $16 million with the New York Knicks. The deal is fully guaranteed.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.
Hartenstein was born in Eugene, Oregon, but played his first seasons of professional basketball overseas in Germany, after moving there as a child. He was drafted in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets, who had him spend time with their G League team before promoting him to the roster. Hartenstein then bounced around to the Nuggets, Cavaliers and Clippers before being given this new Knicks contract.
In 2021, Hartenstein scored 8.3 points per game, which was a career high. He also played more minutes than he ever had before, and shot the highest three-point percentage of his career, at 46.7 percent; more than decent for a seven-footer.
