Is Father Time Finally Catching Up With LeBron James?

Publish Date: November 8, 2022

LeBron James’ 20 NBA is in full swing. The question that has been following him since before the season is “is father time finally catching up with LeBron James?”

Tough start

Nine games into the season, it does not seem like father time has caught up with the 37 year old James. While he is off to a decent start, The Los Angeles Lakers are not. James is averaging 24.3 points, 8.9 rebounds and 36.1 minutes per game. The Lakers have a 2-7 record and are 27 out of 30 for points made in the NBA.

Comparison

Statistically, James is playing within his normal range. His best shooting season on record was the 2005-06 season, in which he averaged 31.4 points per game. Last season, at 36 years old, he had his second best shooting season. He averaged 30.3 points over a 56 game span.

His worst career shooting season came in his rookie year. He averaged 20.9 points in 79 games.

This far into the season, James is currently in 19 place for shooting. He is behind players like Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell, all of whom are averaging over 30 points per game.

Night off

James played in the first nine games for the Lakers this year. His first night of rest came Monday night in the second of back-to-back games. The team announced Monday afternoon that he would miss the tenth game of the season against the Utah Jazz due to left foot soreness.

Only time will tell if this is the year father time catches up with LeBron James. One thing that is for certain, is that he has cemented his place amongst some of the greats. Currently he is on track to break Kareem Abdul-Jabbars’ as the NBA all time scoring leader. He has the most all star selections. And, he is third on the list for most minutes played in NBA history.
