The Indiana Pacers have filled their coaching vacancy. Former Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle has been hired by the Pacers. Rick Carlisle’s brand new contract is worth a reported $29 million over four years.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.
Carlisle was the coach that finally took Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks to an NBA Championship in 2011. That Finals was won over LeBron James and the Miami Heat, no less.
He was the head coach in Dallas for 13 seasons, working for the Pistons and Pacers prior to 2008. His teams have made the playoffs in 14 of his 21 head coaching seasons. Now, he returns to the Pacers after becoming a legend in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
